Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 Teaser Online

Posted by Rodney Brazeau On January - 8 - 2010

Seems the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 Teaser was just that. A Teaser.

WB seems to hate it when we promote stuff for them so the previous version we had up got ganked, but it seems that MovieWeb has it up, so here it is in case you missed it.

I enjoyed all the Harry Potter movies and I didn’t dislike the last one as much as most people did, but I wish we got to see more of Riddle’s past like we did in the books.

I have faith this last chapter will knock it out of the park. It has to!

Dangerous Minds meets Harry Potter

Posted by Rodney Brazeau On December - 22 - 2009

The College Humor gang have put together a little spoof trailer for the next generation of Harry Potter fans.

This shit just got real yo. This is Dangerous Wands.

Now that’s a next generation film I would like to see. Hermoine Granger as a teacher at Hogwarts reaching out to a younger generation that just deserve to have a better life.

Inspiring.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter Theme Park Details

Posted by Rodney Brazeau On December - 10 - 2009

The planned Universal Theme Park addition The Wizarding World of Harry Potter will give fans the chance to actually walk through recreated sets from the Harry Potter franchise as well as rides and attractions themed on the popular movie series.

Now /Film reports on some of the attactions we can expect:

You’ll be able to buy a butterbeer, which looks just like a real beer with the froth on top, but it’ll be non-alcoholic. J.K. Rowling was at a butterbeer tasting and loved it. Steve Jayson, executive chef with Universal Parks and Resorts said, ‘The flavor of this is great, real comforting, nice and smooth going down - and you get a mustache.’

The Flight of the Hippogriff ride (family friendly coaster) will center around The Care of Magical Creatures Class. Hagrid will give instructions on how to properly behave and approach a hippogriff. You’ll need to keep eye contact, bow and it will bow back. Then you can get on the ride.

Hogwart’s Castle will feature the queue to the Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey ride. The queue will feature a lot of moving portraits and will take you by or through the Defense of the Dark Arts room, the Common Room and the Great Hall.

Check out the clip of the cast talking about some of the amazing attractions:

So would you be making the trip to Orlando for this? I know I am.

Hell, I might even bring my kids!

Magic Wand to Control your Home Theater

Posted by Rodney Brazeau On September - 21 - 2009

With all the wonder and magic of technology bringing your favourite films to your own living room’s home theater, its just a matter of time before we get real magic happening.

Now Harry Potter fans can buy a Universal TV Remote in the form of a Magic Wand. Yes, the wand is “real” and is not just some gimmicked prop with a panel full of buttons. It tracks your delicate motions as you command your television with a twist and a flick of your wrist.

Worst Previews shares:

It uses an on board processor and accelerometer to control your IR devices from your hand movements. There are no buttons, just thirteen predefined hand gestures (clockwise turn, downward thrust, etc) that can be programmed to turn up the volume, change channels, control your iPod, or turn on your IR lamp.

I can totally see me owning one of these things and making sure I have one of those IR controlled lamps so I can flick my wand at it and say “Luminatus!”

The want will be on sale October 1st for about $85 bucks.

Wizarding World of Harry Potter Concept Art Online

Posted by Rodney Brazeau On September - 16 - 2009

Universal Studios is hard at work to build their Wizarding World of Harry Potter as an immersive experience of all things Harry Potter.

Online today we get a look at some of the concept art and video workup of a flyby of the park with some inspirational clips from the film.

/Film has the breakdown of some of the attractions

* Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey: Located in Hogwarts Castle, this “thrilling new state-of-the-art attraction” uses “entirely new technology to bring the magic, characters and stories of Harry Potter to life in ways never before experienced.”

* Flight of the Hippogriff: A family coaster which will include interaction with Hagrid as you fly on a Hippogriff for training.

* Dragon Challenge: Formerly the Dueling Dragons coaster, rethemed to center on flying either a Hungarian Horntail or Chinese Fireball, featuring “many iconic elements from the Triwizard Tournament.”

Other attractions include Ollivander’s Shop, Owl Post, Dervish and Banges, Three Broomsticks, Honeydukes, Zonko’s and Filch Emporium.

I am such a geek. I can’t wait to go see this. I might even bring my kids.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince Featurette Online

Posted by Rodney Brazeau On July - 6 - 2009

Half Blood Prince was always my favourite of the Harry Potter Books, so I am anticipating this film even more than its two part finale, currently in production.

And now we get a microfeature from HBO that shows some of the behind the scenes stuff and cast interviews with the cast and crew of Half-Blood Prince

This is looking mighty awesome, and despite the media saturation we are getting to fill in the 7 month gap from when this was supposed to come out, I am still looking forward to it.

Even More Half-Blood Prince Posters

Posted by Rodney Brazeau On April - 21 - 2009

Adding to the flipbook that is the reams of set pictures and posters of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, we get four new character posters for the film.

These feature a pairing of characters.

It’s no secret that this is my favourite chapter of the series, but seeing that Malfoy and Snape image reminded me of how the two characters reach their importance in the last chapter. The way their story comes together as the result of this story and onto the next is a wonderful buildup. It took 6 books but now we finally see WHY Malfoy was there to begin with. He isn’t just a prissy bully wannabe.

Latest Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Trailer Online

Posted by Rodney Brazeau On April - 17 - 2009

The latest Trailer for Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince has found its way online.

I imagine in the next 3 months before this movie finally gets released there will be so many trailers and promotional material out there you could edit the entire movie together with trailer footage and make a flipbook out of the posters.

I guess this is what happens when you finish a movie you started an aggressive advertising campaign for almost a year ago then push it back 8 months.

Still excited to see it. Easily my favourite book of the series.

New Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Trailer Online

Posted by Rodney Brazeau On April - 13 - 2009

A new International trailer for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is online, and this one focuses more on the connection of Horace Slughorn, a former teacher of Tom Riddle, the man who would become Voldemort.

Check it out.

I love this chapter, because this is where it all comes together. All the setup, side plot and adventures lead to this book and the big questions start to get answered. This is the quest that Harry was born to go on, and in his last year in Hogwarts (such a good rolemodel… highschool dropout) he realizes his destiny, finds out the truth behind Voldemort’s dark past and takes off into the climax.

This is the Empire Strikes Back of the series to me. Its where everything MATTERS and everything makes sense and you know what needs to be done. And in the next chapter is just the conclusion. Sure it will be a satisfying end of the franchise when the last epic conflict gets broken into two parts, but it all comes together here.

This is the one chapter they cannot afford to mess up. I am sure they will leave plenty of the book out. I expect that, but this is where they need to drive home those side bits.

Rhys Ifans Joins Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Posted by Rodney Brazeau On March - 30 - 2009

The most recent Harry Potter film Half-Blood Prince is already in the can and waiting to be released come this July, but filming for the back to back 2010/2011 releases of the final chapter - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - is already underway. By this point in the story there are very few roles left to be cast, but it appears that Rhys Ifans has one of them.

MovieWeb shares:

Rhys Ifans appeared on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross and announced that he will be playing an important role in the upcoming film Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Under contract, the actor did not reveal which character he will be playing.

He did say that he will be playing a wizard.

Speculating that he is a wizard isn’t sharing much. He might as well have said he will be playing a part of a man for all that says about his role. Just how many non-wizards are in the last book?

But the devoted fansite The Leaky Cauldron has already pinned him down for the role of Xenophilius Lovegood editor of the wizarding world’s oft seen magazine, The Quibbler, and father of Luna Lovegood, a latecomer to Harry’s student posse.

Xeno’s presence will be key at Bill Weasley and Fleur Delacour Wedding as he gets into a conflict with Quiddich star Krum which reveals a clue to one of the Deathly Hallows which is the quest Harry is on. His daughter is also a part of the plot likely to be hit on in the two part finale.

Xeno is an odd fella, and I think that Ifans could play that part well. I can’t think of who else he might be.

Six New Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Posters

Posted by Rodney Brazeau On March - 27 - 2009

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was all WB had left in which to pole its tents, so it got pushed from the Christmas release to support the oh-nine lineup this summer. So strangely all the promotional materials had to stretch out another 8 months. So this month’s sampling comes in the form of 6 new character centric posters.

I do like the groovy backdrop of the movie’s off kilter title, but the characters themselves look a little “too” painted up. I am not sure if these are actually paintings or if they are edited photos, but they seem a little off. I wonder if they padded Hermoine’s breasts again like last time.

New Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince Trailer Online

Posted by Rodney Brazeau On March - 5 - 2009

The latest trailer for the painful wait to see the movie that is already done and in the can has hit the net. Of course I am talking about Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

I just love how that trailer opens with the pensieve visuals shaping from smoky obstructions in the water into a dream scape imagery. That alone will make this movie worthwhile. The flashback moments in the pensieve were what made this my favourite book of the series. History is exposed, and things start to make sense. We also get a look into what made Voldemort the threat he is at this point and why everyone else is afraid of him.

In the series up until this point everyone refers to Voldemort as “He who must not be named” as everyone in the wizarding world is still terrified of him. Harry, being thrown into this world uses his proper name all the time. Not because he is so ballsy, but that he just doesn’t seem to think saying his name is all that scary. He doesn’t get it. And as the reader you also don’t feel that foreboding of the most terrifying magician of the Wizarding world.

It was this book that finally elevated Voldemort into the terror he is, and this evolution is also a parallel into his resurrection as he is becoming stronger and more a threat again. We see what everyone else already knows at the same time as he rises back to the same level of power he once had.

I so can’t wait for this chapter!

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince Teaser Posters Online

Posted by Rodney Brazeau On February - 6 - 2009

A few Teaser posters have been released for Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.

With the original release date already long behind us, “Teaser” has taken on a new meaning. Potter fans everywhere are already chomping at the bit for this movie. What was supposed to be a Christmas season release, is now filling the void left by the Writer’s Strike that left WB without a tentpole for its summer audience so they delayed this movie. I hope 10 years from now they make a Fanboys sequel depicting the comedic efforts of some Harry Potter Fanboys stealing a copy of this movie that should have been out two months ago!

Anyways, here are the posters!

I like the dramatic look of these images. Half-Blood Prince was my favourite of the Potter books as it spends a great deal of time with Potter looking in on memories that reveal Lord Voldemort’s humble origins. The book has a darker tone with that “storm is brewing” kind of feel to it, so the dark gloomy tones of the poster capture that well.
