22 Mistakes and Counting in New Moon

Posted by Rodney Brazeau On November - 30 - 2009

Seems the barrels of those guns are still aimed at Twilight as it takes the #1 spot two weeks in a row, just edging out $2million ahead of Sandra Bullock’s $40m opening of The Blind Side.

Over the last week since the film’s release there have been a number of movie mistakes discovered about the film. A staggering 22 of them in fact.

io9.com has shared some of them:

here are a few of the problems the fans have identified:

When Jacob first shows off his tattoo, it is up at the top of his shoulder. Then when he is in the forest at the end with Bella and Edward, his tattoo is about 2 inches further down his arm.

When Bella is flying to Italy they show a Virgin America airplane. Virgin America only flies within certain cities in the US. Virgin Atlantic flies from the US to Europe.

Just as Jacob enters Bella’s room through the window, a stunt prop - white band on his right wrist - is briefly visible.

In the montage scenes where we see Bella’s depression, when the camera is circling her, the camera man is shown in the mirror (twice) behind her.

The rims of the vampires contacts can be spotted occasionally during the film, especially the Volturi’s during the ending scenes — e.g., Jane’s in the elevator.

In the main title when the giant new moon appears on the screen the shadow fades over the moon from right to left when it should actually fade from left to right. The moon travels around the earth clockwise. The waning moon should turn to a new moon, not the waxing which is shown.

Interestingly enough in the original article, the writer speculates on a number of flaws that just reveal she has never read the books or knows anything about Twilight. She ponders on how its possible that Jacob could transform into a wolf 4 times his size (uh… magic has to follow the laws of physics now?) and where they keep getting clothes after they shred their outfits(the book spells out how they deal with this too)

But still I am sure that the twhaters will be trying to use this as Ammo for proving how flawed Twilight is, keep in mind that according to Movie Mistakes, Star Wars has 139 recorded mistakes (259 reported - 120 corrections). Who knows if they will find as many in New Moon.

I am sure more will be found and nit picked over. But spotting these little slip ups in any film is always fun.

New Moon Owns the Boxoffice but still Third Biggest Opening Weekend

Posted by Rodney Brazeau On November - 23 - 2009

I am not a Twihard, but I have to tip my hat to the makers of Twlight Saga’s New Moon as it shattered records all weekend long. I do like the series as a whole despite its glaring flaws, but it has grown to be something more than just Stephanie Meyers medochre writing and emo girls.

Latino Review says:

New Moon broke a ton of records and almost beat Spider-Man 3 and The Dark Knight becoming 3rd in all time opening weekends with $140.7 million estimated dollars. So far it has earned $258 million total when you include the international numbers.

Here’s some #1’s for New Moon:

Werewolf film (LOL!) #1
Yearly Opening Weekends 2009 #1
Opening Day Gross #1
Single Day Gross #1
Single Friday Day Gross #1
Opening Weekends - Nov. #1
Opening Holiday Weekends #1
Widest Independent Release #1
Widest Opening Indy Release #1
Fastest To $100 Million #1

While the “Werewolf film” title is a little specific, the other titles are a level playing field.

This is like Legos. (Stay with me a moment) Legos are insanely popular. It is by far my favourite toy growing up and my own kids still swim in the piles of it I have collected and now passed on to them. But like big boxoffice smash hits, the toy was dominated by a male demographic. Now out of no where they have lego sets for girls, and its about time that a soft squishy romance story would land in the big house with the rest of the boy toys.

Its an impressive goal nonetheless, and even all those haters out there ready with their “This is surely a sign of the end of the world!” trolling there has to at least be some respect for what they have accomplished.

Is the writing in the books great? No. Not at all.
Is it a great action flick? No. It has its moments, but this is a romance.

But it is a franchise that has managed to connect with people outside of its targetted tween girls demographic and people are clearly enjoying this franchise. I quite expect anything popular to be met with that knee jerk “I have to make fun of it” stuff, but honestly it just proves how popular it is when people do that.

That all being said, do you HAVE to like this franchise now that a lot of people went to see it? Not at all.

I myself am more looking forward to the third film as it was my favourite book of the series, but I almost hope they don’t make the last book into a movie. It was terrible. And I say that knowing the first three were not that great, but still had SOMETHING to them. I look for the good in them regardless. The fourth book had so much potential to wind up the franchise with a whimper.

New Moon sets New Midnight Release Record

Posted by Rodney Brazeau On November - 20 - 2009

It will be no surprise when Twilight Saga’s New Moon will be #1 at the Boxoffice this weekend already setting records in Fanadango online ticket pre-order sales, but early reports are now saying that a new Midnight Release record has been set, toppling the previous record held by Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince earlier this year.

LA Times reports:

Two people close to the picture said the exact gross, which is still being calculated by Summit Entertainment, could be as high as $26 million.

Update (10:45 AM): Summit’s official estimate for midnight ticket sales is $26.27 million. Its official estimate for the gross of the original “Twilight” last night is $1.3 million.

The craze seems to have blossomed since the first film came out, enforcing that even though Twilight novels were already a hit, that the feature film put it on the map dragging in droves of new fans. Fans apparently eager to catch the new installment of the insanely popular franchise.

Reveiws are rolling in positive for the movie, and I expect there will be records set this weekend.

New Moon Advanced Ticket Sales Dethrone Star Wars

Posted by Rodney Brazeau On November - 17 - 2009

Twilight doesn’t have the kind of die hard fanboys who would camp out on a sidewalk waiting to buy tickets, but that mostly has to do with the internet offering advanced sales online. And those online sales have just surpassed the previous record holder Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith sucking up the grand majority of the business for advanced ticket agent Fandango.

Cinema Blend says:

And today, the balance of power has shifted entirely– Deadline Hollywood is reporting that New Moon has sold the most advance tickets in Fandango’s history, surpassing Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. It’s currently accounting for 86% of sales on the site, which is as much due to the massive appeal of the film as the fact that there’s nothing else out right now.

I think that the lack of competition for tickets is a big bonus for them, but this also means that 2012’s big windfall will have a significant drop this following weekend.

They couldn’t have released it at a better time. The fanbase is still rabid, and the movie fans are slowly coming around even though they don’t want to admit it. I even hear friends who were previously blind haters of the franchise seeing the trailer and reluctantly admitting that the action looks good.

Twilight doesn’t have to be your cup of tea, but this would be a great weekend to see ANYTHING else if you didn’t want to wait in line. New Moon is trending to hit $100m this weekend, which means other films? Won’t.

New Moon Featurette Online - The Wolf Pack

Posted by Rodney Brazeau On October - 28 - 2009

A new micro featurette is online for Twilight Saga’s New Moon, which is very much more of a werewolf movie than it is Vampires this time around.

Taylor Lautner plays a more dominate role this time out, and in this featurette he, Kristen Stewart and others in the wolf pack talk about just how that works.

I really did enjoy the change of pace having the Cullens mostly absent for the better part of this chapter giving us a closer look at Meyers’ version of the werewolf legends.

More Wolf Action in New Moon Clip

Posted by Rodney Brazeau On October - 21 - 2009

We have already seen Jacob transform in the trailer for New Moon, but the scene in which he leaps over Bella is placed immediately after a scene where Bella is cornered by Laurent which suggests a scene that was not in the book.

However thanks to this little clip we get to see more of that scene with another wolfpack member Paul losing his cool and wolfing out first, then Jacob in his brief but effective leaping out of your shorts transformation.

The Wolves are my favourite part of this book and I look forward to seeing more of their mythos explained on the big screen. And while I am looking forward to the Volturi, its the Newborn Army battle that I can’t wait to see in the third film.

Two New Character Posters Online for New Moon

Posted by Rodney Brazeau On October - 5 - 2009

Forget the “factions” set of posters for Twilight Saga’s New Moon. The real reason anyone is watching this movie is because of Edward and Bella. Strange enough that Edward is not as predominate in this film as Jacob will be, but there are two new posters out showcasing each of the two contraversial lovers.

Finally they show a picture of Bella that makes me think she is someone worth chasing after, and somewhat convincing that when she becomes a “beautifully perfect vampire” that she might actually be beautiful.

My biggest complaint about the casting is that Bella (Stewart) in the films is always mopey and depressed. Short of Edward explaining that her scent is intoxicating to him, I didn’t really see any reason for anyone to chase after her.

But in this poster she does look downright beautiful (photoshopped to perfection and all) and actually gives me a reason to think that these boys would have any reason at all to be fighting over her.

Three New Moon Posters Online

Posted by Rodney Brazeau On September - 29 - 2009

The three character “factions” of New Moon are each getting their own poster to advertise the second in the four book to movie series.

I am impressed that Taylor Lautner has made such a transformation from that scrawny long haired boy to this impressive pack hunter. When reading the books its very clear that his character makes a physical transformation when he realizes his heritage, and while I didn’t think they would be able to do it, he seems to have saved himself from recasting by drinking milk and working out.

Also, the classy garb and posturing of the Volturi is ripped perfectly from my mind’s eye. But I am still pretty creeped out that Dakota isn’t 8 anymore and is looking every bit the alluring beauty her character is in the books.

I am actually looking forward to this a bit more than I would have thought I would.

New Moon Full Trailer Online

Posted by Rodney Brazeau On September - 16 - 2009

I have to admit it, I liked the Twilight series so far (just finishing the third book) and looking forward to the upcoming sequel New Moon. The first book was all about introducing how the world of Twilight works, and it wasn’t until New Moon that the plot really took shape.

Check out the full released trailer below.

This looks to be more action filled than the introduction and that’s great. I was currently more interested in the treaty that the Quillettes have with the Cullens, and the social structure of the Vampire Royalty, so I like this film focusing more on Jacob and his furry family and seeing the bigger world of the Vampires.

Also, I feel very strange finding Dakota so attractive as a Vampire since I still have a hard time wrapping my head around her as a teenager. Somehow in my head she is stil 8, so to see her growed up some is odd.

14 Seconds of the New Moon Trailer Online

Posted by Rodney Brazeau On August - 11 - 2009

The Twihards will get to see the trailer for Twilight Saga’s New Moon this coming weekend in front of Bandslam (they need something to lure people to buy a ticket I guess) but just because we now how rabid the fanbase is, they are teasing you with a teaser of the trailer.

Yup, you Twilight fans get a whole 14 seconds of Team Jacob promo to peek at!

I am more of a Team Alice kinda guy myself. But then I am not a squealing teenage girl. I still like the books and look forward to the film.

New Moon: Mike Newton and Jacob Black Date Scene

Posted by Rodney Brazeau On June - 29 - 2009

Ok, the title of the article I found over at Horror Yearbook used a title that implies that Jacob Black and Mike Newton go on a date in Twilight Saga’s New Moon.

But that just isn’t the case, but its still funny to see the title and the confusion it might cause.

Anyways, in the article they are quoting Michael Welch (who plays Mike Newton, a co-worker and friend of Bella’s who has a crush on her - who doesn’t in these books?) where he talks about a scene were his character and Jacob inadvertently ends up going on a “date” with Bella after a group outing to the theater turns into Bella’s two biggest fans accompanying her. He talks about the fictional movie within the movie:

The film is called ‘Face Punch. It’s an action film. We started out with a few other comical names, but it turned out those were actual films so we couldn’t use those titles. I forget the first few titles, but it was like ‘Crazy Explosion’ — and it turns out, there actually was a ‘Crazy Explosion.’ Chris came up with the title. And apparently there is no ‘Face Punch’ that we know of.

Welsh speculates that a fake trailer for the movie they see which in the book is called “Crosshairs” and is the second film that Bella sees in the book, the first being a Zombie flick called “Dead End”.

Maybe Weitz will come up with some trailers for them and we might get a peek at what is going on “on screen” in these movies. Would just be fun to see.

More fun than watching Jacob and Mike on a date.

Rathbone Promises More Action in Twilight’s New Moon

Posted by Rodney Brazeau On June - 17 - 2009

In one of the scenes we see in the New Moon trailer we get a peek at Jasper, the newest to the “vegetarian vampire” loose his calm when Bell accidentally exposes her well concealed blood collection and this sparks a conflict between Jasper and Edward.

Well Jackson Rathbone suggests that is not the only action we will get in the film.

io9.com gives us:

In regards to the scene where he gets flung into a piano by a pasty Robert Pattinson, Rathbone hinted that he gives as good as he gets: “That’s only the beginning of it. They didn’t show the entire thing. It’s gonna be a really action-packed movie.”

I am in the process of reading the book, and the scene written there is about as elaborate as we saw in the trailer. Bella cuts herself, Jasper goes feral and Edward introduces his spine to a piano. The rest of the scene is just family removing a now embarassed Jasper from the scene and tending to the tossed Bellas cuts.

Sounds like they are stepping up some of the action to give us a little more flash for our admission.

First Look at Dakota Fanning in New Moon

Posted by Rodney Brazeau On June - 3 - 2009

Dakota Fanning grew up into a young lady and I didn’t even notice. When I heard that Dakota Fanning was considered for a role in the Twilight Saga’s New Moon, I wondered what role was available for an 8 year old girl. But then I remembered that she wouldn’t be 8 forever and was surprised to see how she has grown.

Now we get our first look at Dakota in costume on the set of New Moon as the Volturi Vampire Jane.

I haven’t read the second book yet, but as I understand her role wouldn’t be major but will play a bigger part in the third chapter.

Official MTV New Moon Teaser Trailer Online

Posted by Rodney Brazeau On May - 31 - 2009

Tonight during the fashion show, commercial and popularity contest known as the MTV Movie Awards, a first look at New Moon has come around and they sure know how to hit it with the fans.

If you read anything about the fans wanting to see something in the trailer it was probably answered right here:

So we get a taste of Edward being all broody and soft on Bella, we see Bella pining for Edward and then we see poor little Bella get threatened by a Vampire (bitter he didnt get a bite last movie) and then boom. We see Lautner showing off what drinking milk, puberty and a little gym time can do for your body. Oh, and did I mention he wolfs out into a giant badass canine looking for a scooby snack?

Great teaser.

Entertainment Tonight New Moon Day 3 Coverage

Posted by Rodney Brazeau On April - 26 - 2009

Day 3 of Entertainment Tonight’s behind the scenes coverage of The Twilight Saga’s New Moon is online. This one is pretty lengthy.

More will come as I find them. Another one is on tonight.

Entertainment Tonight’s New Moon: Day 2 Coverage

Posted by Rodney Brazeau On April - 24 - 2009

Entertainment Tonight’s Behind the Scenes coverage of The Twilight Saga’s New Moon hits day two and we have it right here for you.

Lots of juicy gossip, but I really only care about the movie related stuff. Amazing that Lautner put on 30lbs to bulk up and be more muscular for this role. That kid looks twice the size he was in the first movie. Amazing.

Entertainment Tonight’s New Moon Behind the Scenes

Posted by Rodney Brazeau On April - 24 - 2009

For you Twilight Fans who might have missed the Entertainment Tonight behind the scenes featurette from last night’s episode, we intrepid bloggers have delivered it to you!

In two parts, commercial free. Take a look:

I got sucked into the series after John gave it a good review. I wasn’t originally interested at all, but I couldn’t help but be curious. Now we have the movie on Blu, and my wife has aggressively consumed all four books in the span of a week.

I am just now getting into reading the books, which is hard for me to get into the first one as I am running the movie over and over and comparing it in my head. I imagine reading the next three will be easier as the movie won’t be out yet.

Dakota Fanning Confirmed for Twilight’s New Moon

Posted by Rodney Brazeau On March - 9 - 2009

Twilight fans may recall not too long ago that Dakota Fanning was offered a role in New Moon well now thanks to ComingSoon.net we now have confirmation that Miss Fanning is taking the job!

In January, Dakota Fanning said she was in talks to play Jane in the Summit Entertainment sequel The Twilight Saga’s New Moon. The 15-year-old actress is set to star as a sinister vampire with an angelic exterior who works for the Volturi.

Now just from what I am reading online about the role, Jane is a viscious little wretch, so this will be a different sort of role we typically see the adorable Fanning in. However I couldn’t help but notice that Fanning is not eight years old anymore, so its about time this talented young actress tries something more challenging.

Also, I noticed that she is only a minor role in New Moon, not appearing til closer to the end of the novel, and is also not heavily involved in the following book either. So this role may simply be a small part for Dakota who has been playing front line roles pretty much since she hit the scene.

Her character Jane also has a twin brother, so I wonder who they will cast in that place if at all.
